An 18-year-old Hibiscus Coast man will appear in court this week after allegedly stealing clothing and other items from teenagers near Westfield Albany.
Waitematā East Area Commander Inspector Mike Rickards says three offenders targeted two young victims on Friday morning, September 26.
“On Friday morning, three offenders have approached our two teenage victims near the shopping centre,” he said in a statement.
“From there they have made demands and stolen clothing as well as other personal items from the unsuspecting teenagers.”
Police enquiries led officers to Red Beach, where the 18-year-old was arrested. He will appear in the North Shore District Court on Thursday, October 2, charged with demanding with menace.
Two other youths, aged 13 and 15, were also located and referred to Youth Aid.
Inspector Rickards says the investigation also recovered property allegedly stolen from two 12-year-olds in Albany on September 24.
“It’s an awful experience for these young victims during school holidays to go through what they have,” he says.
“Police hope that this provides some reassurance to the community that we are holding offenders to account while also recovering stolen property.”
