The Government has today released a new mobile app designed to make it easier and safer for people to access public services, says Digitising Government and Public Service Minister Judith Collins.
Collins says the new Govt.nz app provides a secure way for New Zealanders to find official information and connect with services from their phones.
“This is an important milestone in our work to ensure we have a digital public service that is customer-focused, efficient, and future-ready,” she says.
At launch, the app allows users to access trusted government information and services, customise their experience by saving commonly used services to a personal dashboard, and receive emergency warnings from agencies such as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ).
Collins says more features will be rolled out in the coming months, including secure messaging, notifications, and a digital wallet capable of holding identity credentials such as licences and qualifications.
“The app released today is just the start. I look forward to seeing New Zealanders benefit from these improvements as we continue to expand the app’s capabilities,” she says.
She emphasises that using the app will remain optional and traditional service channels will stay in place.
“Participation will always be optional, and people will continue to be able to access government services in a range of ways. Our goal is to offer an option that is secure and convenient, while maintaining the highest standards of safety.”
The Govt.nz app is available now on both iOS and Android.
