Desert Pirates
This is the story of Kiwi soldiers who made history in North Africa during the Second World War as part of the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG), the forerunners to the NZSAS. Operating behind enemy lines, they navigated vast deserts by sun and stars, carrying out daring raids and reconnaissance missions under extreme conditions. But behind the legend lies the reality.
This series explores the brutal, often untold human cost of desert warfare, and the life-or-death decisions these men faced as individuals and as a unit. The series draws on recordings made during the war by the NZ Broadcast Unit on site in North Africa, along with narrations by John Daniell and Noelle McCarthy, and interviews with historians and those close to the men of the LRDG. Available via iHeart and Apple Podcasts.

People Helping Nature Podcast
This podcast is all about sharing incredible stories of people who are helping nature. In one recent episode, they talk to Ollie Rutland-Sims from Pest Free Banks Peninsula to learn about their possum elimination programme.
A bold mission, strategically working to drive possum numbers to zero in their area under the ethos that “offence is the best defence”. Another episode explores one of the country’s most elusive and lesser-known birds: the matuku-hūrepo, or Australasian bittern. The Pūkorokoro Miranda Shorebird Centre also featured in January this year. A great podcast to learn more about conservation efforts across the country.
