Two people are in hospital following a house fire in Papakura this afternoon.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) shift manager Garreth Lewis said they received a call-out to an address off Settlement Road, Papakura shortly after 1pm today.
“All persons are accounted for. The incident reached what we call a second alarm level, which means that at the peak of the incident, we had five fire trucks, one ladder truck, and one command unit in attendance.”
“The fire has been extinguished, and we are still on scene, dampening down hotspots.”
A St John spokesperson said two patients were transported to Middlemore Hospital, one in a serious condition and the other in a moderate condition.
The spokesperson could not confirm whether the patients were adults or children, but the Franklin Times understands they are an older couple.
Two St John ambulances, a rapid response [utility] vehicle, and one manager vehicle attended, she said.
Lewis said a fire investigator will also attend the scene.
Fire appliances from Papakura, Manurewa, Papatoetoe, and Otara attended the blaze.
