Position Summary:
Castaways Restaurant and Bar is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of our restaurant and bar, ensuring a seamless and exceptional guest experience. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing staff, ensuring customer satisfaction, and maintaining the high standards of service, quality, and safety for which Castaways is renowned.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the restaurant and bar, ensuring all shifts run smoothly and efficiently.
- Coordinate with the kitchen and bar teams to ensure timely service and product quality.
- Handle guest inquiries, complaints, and special requests professionally and efficiently, ensuring all issues are resolved to guests’ satisfaction.
- Maintain a visible presence on the floor during service times, ensuring smooth workflow and guest satisfaction.
- Staff Leadership & Development
- Supervise, support, and motivate front-of-house staff, ensuring that they adhere to restaurant policies and provide excellent service.
- Train new team members and provide ongoing coaching to improve service standards.
- Assist in scheduling staff to ensure appropriate coverage during peak hours while maintaining labour cost efficiency.
- Health & Safety Compliance
- Ensure the restaurant and bar comply with all health, safety, and liquor licensing regulations.
- Oversee the cleanliness and maintenance of all areas, ensuring the venue meets hygiene and safety standards.
- Monitor adherence to safety protocols, including food handling, alcohol service, and emergency procedures.
- Financial Management
- Assist with daily financial operations, including managing cash handling procedures, closing the register, and balancing tills.
- Work with the Food & Beverage Manager and Duty Manager to optimize cost control and revenue generation through efficient resource management and upselling initiatives.
- Customer Experience
- Foster a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere for all guests, ensuring top-tier customer service.
- Engage with guests, gather feedback, and implement improvements to elevate their dining experience.
- Ensure high standards of presentation, ambiance, and service quality are consistently upheld.
- Inventory & Supplies Management
- Assist with monitoring stock levels for food, beverages, and restaurant supplies, ensuring timely ordering and inventory control.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proven experience in a supervisory or management role within a hospitality or restaurant environment.
- Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate a diverse team.
- Strong knowledge of food and beverage service, including wine, cocktails, and menu items.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Strong communication skills with an emphasis on customer service.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, liquor licensing laws, and best practices.
- Experience with financial processes, including cash handling, POS systems, and shift reconciliation.
- NZ Driving License
Preferred Qualifications:
- NZ LCQ/Duty Manager’s Certificate (or equivalent certification).
- Experience in managing restaurant/bar operations in a high-volume environment.
- First aid certification and experience in handling emergencies. (Preferred but not essential)
