Police say they interrupted a series of overnight burglaries in Manurewa, taking three suspects into custody after multiple residents reported people trying to enter properties.
Just after 11.30pm yesterday, callers alerted Police to a group attempting to break into homes on Avonglen Court, Wattle Farm Road and Glencalder Place.
Counties Manukau Central Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Warrick Adkin, said a short time later another member of the public reported a vehicle being abandoned nearby.
“The vehicle hadn’t been reported stolen at the time, however a phone call to the registered owner confirmed it was stolen.
“The Police Eagle helicopter arrived quickly and observed a group of three people allegedly trespassing on properties and stealing clothing items.”
Eagle guided officers on the ground to the group, who were taken into custody without incident.
A 27-year-old man has been charged with burglary and is due to appear in Manukau District Court on November 18. Two others, both aged 15, have been referred to Youth Aid.
“Police will continue to deploy a range of resources and tactics to respond to this sort of offending so that we can hold people to account,” Adkin said.
