The winning photo from Pukekohe Franklin Camera Club’s May club night, this striking shot by Lisa Kearns has the Times team ‘cat-tivated’.
Titled Becoming it is about the quiet emergence of strength, instinct and something untamed rising to the surface, Kearns explains.
“In this composite, I wanted to capture the moment of transformation – the point where the woman is no longer separate from the tiger but is becoming it.
“Rather than a simple split image, my aim was to suggest a gradual shift. I focused on aligning the facial features, so the transition feels natural, particularly through the eyes which anchor the image.
“I worked on blending the textures, so the skin subtly gives way to fur, reinforcing the idea of change rather than contrast. The black and white allowed me to emphasise form, texture and expression without colour competing for attention.”
We could say something about how Zoomorphism is so hot right now, but Kearns’ explanation is much better!
