Five youths have been charged following an aggravated robbery at a commercial premises in Westshore, Napier.
Police were notified of the incident on Monday, February 16, at about 4.40pm after three people allegedly entered a business on Charles Street, stole items and fled in a vehicle containing two others.
All of the alleged offenders took steps to conceal their identities. No injuries were reported, though the business owner was left shaken.
The vehicle used in the incident was later located abandoned on Alexander Avenue and has been seized for forensic examination.
Following enquiries, including information provided by members of the public, Police identified five alleged offenders.
Search warrants were executed at a Napier address yesterday evening, February 17, where four youths were taken into custody. Police say evidence relating to the robbery, including clothing allegedly worn by the offenders, was located during the search.
A fifth youth was arrested a short time later.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Karli Whiu said Police were pleased with the outcome.
“Much like the community, Police have no tolerance for this type of offending, and we will continue to work hard to hold offenders to account,” Whiu said.
The youths are due to appear in the Napier Youth Court today, jointly charged with aggravated robbery and unlawfully taking a motor vehicle. Further charges have not been ruled out.
