Auckland Transport (AT) is throwing its support behind Auckland FC as the Black Knights continue their charge to capture football’s A-League crown in just their second season.
Following their dominant semifinal win over Adelaide United FC last weekend, Auckland hosts Sydney FC in the A-League Grand Final at Go Media Stadium this evening.
To make the most of Auckland’s home advantage, Go Media Stadium looks set for a bumper crowd to bring the noise, and AT is coming to the party.
Travel on AT’s bus and rail services is included with matchday tickets from 4.30pm.
Avoid the traffic queues and parking hassle by travelling to and from the stadium for free.
Just show your matchday ticket to our staff when boarding your service and remember to keep your ticket for the ride home.
While there are no special event buses, a dedicated ‘fan train’ will run at 7pm from Waitematā (Platform 3) to Penrose, stopping at all stations.
Extra regular train capacity will be provided to cater for expected public transport demand and two buses will be on standby to support the NX1 route if demand exceeds scheduled services.
AT chief executive Stacey van der Putten says this is a “monumental occasion” for the city and club.
“It’s been fantastic to enjoy the real buzz around the city and beyond that Auckland FC has brought to us.
“It’s going to be a big weekend for Auckland so we’re asking people to plan their trips ahead of time so they can travel smoothly.
“Just like after all big events in Auckland and around the world there may be a bit of a wait while our team works hard to help get you home onboard our buses and trains.”
AT Ambassadors will be located on Station Road (near the Penrose Train Station) offering face painting for eventgoers heading to the match.
This runs from 6pm to 7.45pm. As always, AT encourages those going to the match to allow plenty of time for their journey and plan their route via AT Journey Planner.
