New Zealand’s first IKEA store, located at Syliva Park in Auckland, will officially open its doors at 11am tomorrow, December 4.
Its car park will open and customers can join the queue to enter the store from 8.30am tomorrow.
To ensure the safety of everyone going along, customers who arrive earlier than that will be asked to leave and return at 8.30am.
Early queuing, parking, or camping overnight at or around IKEA store or on Sylvia Park Shopping Centre premises is not allowed.
Once it’s opened, the IKEA store will be open from 9am to 9pm seven days a week and its car park will be open from 7.30am daily.
“We expect high visitor numbers at our Sylvia Park store during launch day and throughout the opening period and have been working in conjunction with Auckland Transport, NZTA, Kiwi Property and traffic management experts, Chevron, to prepare for this interest and help minimise traffic disruption,” IKEA says.
“Traffic controllers, constantly updated digital signage and, where necessary, temporary closures and detours will be in place to manage vehicle flow across the IKEA car parks, Sylvia Park Shopping Centre car parks and the surrounding roads and highways.
“To further help manage anticipated interest, we are actively encouraging customers to travel to our Sylvia Park store via public transport trains and buses, where possible.
“We also want to remind all New Zealanders that they can shop online or by phone from the first day of opening.
“This includes home delivery, 29 Pick Up Points around the country and click and collect from IKEA Sylvia Park outside peak times to receive their IKEA order.”
From 8.30am there will be two places to queue to enter the store:
The ground floor alongside the yellow entrance signage outside the IKEA car park and the raised concrete platform when customers come out of the covered walkway across to IKEA from Sylvia Park Shopping Centre.
“Please note queue space in this direction is limited as it leads to an active car park at Sylvia Park. Safety restrictions will be in place.
“Customers waiting in the queue at the ground floor entrance will have access to portable toilets close by.
“Customers waiting in the queue at the covered walkway to IKEA can use toilets in Sylvia Park Shopping Centre.
“We ask all customers to bring their own water bottles, refreshments, and any sun or rain protection to make sure they have a comfortable time in the line.”
