Three events at Hampton Downs will receive a boost from the government’s tourism fund.
MotoFest, which will be held next March, will receive $9000 while the first two rounds of NextGen each receive $25,000. All three events will be held at Hampton Downs.
Port Waikato MP Andrew Bayly said the government was encouraging more New Zealanders to visit the North Waikato, with support from the Regional Events Promotion Fund, helping boost regional tourism and promote local events.
“I’m thrilled to see MotoFest included in this round of funding support.
“This is a standout event on our local calendar that brings motorsport fans to the region, supports local businesses, and showcases what makes North Waikato such a great destination.”
The funding will help promote MotoFest at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, drawing visitors to one of New Zealand’s premier motorsport venues.
“The fund is aimed at regions that don’t usually see high numbers of domestic tourists, especially during the quieter seasons,” he said.
“Events like this are great drawcards. They bring people into the area, generate economic activity, and support jobs and businesses during the off-peak months.”
Across two rounds, the Regional Events Promotion Fund has supported 284 events across the country. A full list of successful applications is available on the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment website.
