Franklin Hospice celebrates 40 years of caring for the community this year.
The milestone year has already seen some changes, with a revamped op shop and new logo.
Christine Swanne took up the role of Franklin Hospice Op Shop manager in mid-January.
“The store has had some extensive renovations, including knocking out a wall to increase the shop size, new carpets and so on. We’ve also changed up our pricing in response to feedback from the community.
“We want to make sure to balance prices with the knowledge that we are raising money for our nurses and other community supports.”
Swanne said the shop was looking for more volunteers.
“We always need quite a number of volunteers. Yes, there’s obviously working in the store, but there’s also sorting and organising the donations, and other behind-the-scenes work that we also need volunteers for.”
Anyone interested in volunteering can visit the Frankin Hospice website or contact them on social media. Swanne said they can also come to the store to discuss what roles are needed.
“I’d also love to get some high school kids in so they can add this to their CV and walk away with skills that are transferable to a job.”
Fundraising and marketing manager Alison Daldy said Franklin Hospice recently unveiled its new logo, bringing together the elements that reflect “our story and our community”.
“This year marks 40 years of caring for our Franklin community. Four decades of walking alongside families. Forty years of compassion, support, and presence when it matters most.”
Daldy said the new logo carries that legacy forward, incorporating three different elements.
Whenua, the land that holds us, our community, our people, our home; awa, the river of support that flows around families, adapting, surrounding, and moving with every journey. And finally, backbone, strength, advocacy, and steady guidance when it’s needed most.
She said Franklin Hospice’s promise remains unchanged: to continue providing compassionate hospice care in your homes across Franklin — always with heart.
