Taupō Police are appealing for information following Wednesday night’s fatal crash near the intersection of State Highway 1 and Horahora Road at Piarere, near Tirau.
Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash around 7.50pm on 15 October.
Two people died at the scene, while one person was critically injured and two others were seriously hurt.
The Serious Crash Unit has completed a scene examination, and the road reopened in the early hours of this morning.
Police are now seeking information from anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from the area.
They are also asking for reports of any unusual or poor driving involving a grey SUV or a small silver hatchback in or around Piarere on Wednesday evening.
