Police have arrested two people and seized a shotgun following a search warrant at a Manurewa property early this morning.
One of the pair is a teenager who was bitten by a police dog after fleeing the scene.
Detective Inspector Shaun Vickers, of Counties Manukau CIB, says the Counties Manukau Gang Disruption Unit executed a warrant at a Lincoln Road address around 6am as part of an ongoing investigation, supported by the Armed Offenders Squad.
“While Police were in the process of approaching the address, a male was seen fleeing the rear of the property in possession of a firearm,” Vickers says.
The target of the warrant, a 35-year-old man, was taken into custody at the address.
A Police dog tracked his associate, a 16-year-old who fled to a nearby property, where he was arrested after receiving a dog-bite injury. He was taken to hospital for treatment of minor wounds.
Police have confirmed a shotgun was located discarded in the nearby area.
“The incident is contained, and taking another firearm out of circulation is a great outcome for our community,” Vickers says.
Charges are expected to be laid in due course.
