The Pukekohe Stamp Club’s annual Stamp Fair is set to attract philatelists (stamp collectors) to St Andrew’s Anglican Church hall on May 2.
While entry is free, sales tables, door prizes, a lucky dip, a scavenger hunt and a raffle could all result in rich rewards.
Cub member Yvonne Middleton says she enjoys the opportunity to share her love of stamps.
“The Stamp Fair is a great opportunity to meet other people who are interested in stamp collecting, and new people who may be inspired to collect too.”
The club was formed in 1988 by Mark and Donna Smith and other stamp collectors in Pukekohe.
Trophies are on the line at the fair with a junior member named ‘Stamp Champ’ and a President’s Award presented for outstanding assistance to the club.
Middleton says stamp collecting is fun but also educational.
“I love to learn about the history, culture, flora and fauna of countries. It’s as if you can travel the world with stamps,” she adds.
“There is such a variety of countries and stamps with thematic topics that you can collect. It’s a challenge to collect sets that have been issued, and it’s an affordable hobby.”
