The Counties Manukau Steelers have produced their best performance of the NPC season as they thrashed Southland 64-10 in Invercargill last Sunday.
Reon Graham’s side had to work hard early before they really clicked into gear and made the game one-way traffic midway through the first half.
The Steelers piled on 10 tries in the massacre against a team that held the Ranfurly Shield as recently as last week.
It is the team’s second win in succession, and it came after their travel south was disrupted by the weather that impacted the country.
“I am extremely proud of the way we front up after having to bus from Christchurch to Invercargill and arriving at 2am,” Graham explained.
“Some very good performances including Leo Ngatai-Tafau in his blazer game.
“A very good team performance in a hard place to win.”
The Steelers return home today to play neighbours Auckland.
