Three people have been taken into custody following a burglary at a commercial premises in Drury that led to a dangerous fleeing drive and two crashes, including one involving a bus in Papakura.
Police were alerted just after 5pm to a burglary at a business on Great South Road in Drury. Three alleged offenders then got into a vehicle that was waiting nearby and left the scene.
Police sighted the vehicle and signalled for it to stop, but it failed to do so and fled at speed. Due to the manner of driving, officers did not pursue the vehicle on the ground, instead maintaining observations with the Police Eagle helicopter as it travelled north on State Highway 1.
As the vehicle left Drury, it collided with a member of the public’s car on Great South Road before later crashing into a bus on Scott Road in Papakura. Despite the severity of the incidents, Police say nobody was injured.
Video taken by the Franklin Times shows a silver sedan careering out of the right lane as it travelled at speed, with Police monitoring the vehicle from above.

Police allege the vehicle was travelling at speeds exceeding one-and-a-half times the posted speed limit at times while on the Auckland Northern Motorway.
Just before 6pm, the vehicle came to a stop on the Northern Motorway, just north of Puhoi Road. Three people were taken into custody without further incident.
Police say charges are being considered as enquiries continue.
