
The national Labour Weekend road toll stands at one after a fatal crash in Morrinsville overnight.
Emergency services were called to a single-vehicle crash on Matuku Road around 2.45am on Friday.
Police say one person was found deceased at the scene.
The road was closed while the Serious Crash Unit carried out a scene examination but has since reopened, police told the Franklin Times.
As of 1.12pm today, October 26, the official national Labour Weekend road toll is one.
The holiday period began at 4pm on Friday and runs until 6am on Tuesday, October 29.
Police continue to urge motorists to take care on the roads, plan ahead, and allow extra time for travel over the long weekend.
