Fire and Emergency New Zealand crews are responding to a chemical spill incident at a commercial property in Seddon Street, Pukekohe this morning.
Fire and emergency crews from Pukekohe, Patumahoe, Papakura, Ōtara, Waiuku and Auckland City have been deployed to the scene.
FENZ shift manager, Paul Radden told the Franklin Times, “We attended the incident at 9.35am and on arrival we found there to be a chemical incident. We currently have seven trucks in attendance with a further two on the way.
“Two chemicals have mixed which have caused a reaction, but we don’t know what the substances are,” he says.
“The hazardous materials unit are in attendance – in specialised gas suits for protection.”
“Unfortunately, one of our trucks from Manurewa en route to the incident broke down on the southern Motorway between Papakura and Takanini.”
