Police are investigating the deaths of two people at a property on Old Coach Road in Pukehina, following a series of events spanning Thursday afternoon and early Friday morning.
Eastern Bay of Plenty Area Investigations Manager Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Wilson says Police were first notified at around 3pm on Thursday January 1, that a woman had sadly died at an address on Old Coach Road.
A 50-year-old man was taken into custody later that afternoon and has been charged with assault on a person in a family relationship. He is due to appear in the Tauranga District Court today, January 2.
Early this morning, at around 2.10am, Police were alerted to a man who had been found deceased in another house on the same property. At this stage, his death is being treated as unexplained.
Wilson says scene examinations will continue throughout the day as Police work to establish exactly what has occurred. He says Police are not ruling out further arrests or charges.
Two post-mortems will be carried out in due course.
Police are asking anyone who has information about what happened, or who may have visited the Old Coach Road address between 7pm on Wednesday 31 December 2025 and 3am on Friday 2 January 2026, to come forward.
