Four people will appear in the Hamilton Youth Court tomorrow after Police tracked alleged aggravated robbery offenders from Thames to Hamilton following a mid-morning pursuit.
Police say the group, two men aged 20 and 18, and two 14-year-old boys, face charges including aggravated robbery, unlawfully using a vehicle and failing to stop for Police.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Neilson says Police were alerted to an aggravated robbery at a business on Pollen Street shortly after 8am today, January 2.
Before officers arrived, the alleged offenders fled in a vehicle, which was later abandoned on a nearby street. Police say the group then left the area in a second vehicle.
Following enquiries, Police identified the second vehicle and soon began receiving reports of it being driven dangerously.
At about 10.10am, the vehicle was spotted in Nawton, prompting Police to deploy the Eagle helicopter from Auckland to assist with tracking.
Police say two occupants were dropped off at a residential property near Waikato Hospital and were arrested a short time later.
The remaining two occupants continued driving before the vehicle was successfully spiked about 11.30am on Bartholomew Drive, coming to a stop on Sunnyside Road.
Police say the pair then attempted to flee in a third vehicle but were intercepted and taken into custody.
Neilson says the investigation is ongoing and further charges are likely.
“The victim of the robbery was understandably shaken by the incident, and we would like to thank members of the public who assisted them,” he says.
