A routine traffic stop in Whangamatā has led to the discovery of a vehicle carrying firearms and other weapons.
Police stopped a vehicle on Friday, March 7 and arrested the driver for driving while disqualified.
While speaking with the driver, officers noticed a long-barrel firearm tucked beside a seat.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered several other items, including a slug gun, a hatchet, a loaded .22 rifle and a homemade 12-gauge pipe gun.
All of the items were seized by Police. The driver was taken to the station and the vehicle was impounded.
A 34-year-old man is due to appear in Hamilton District Court on April 1 charged with possession of firearms, ammunition and other offensive weapons, as well as driving while disqualified.
