Daymond Goulder-Horobin is standing on the Rock The Vote NZ ticket for the Waiuku subdivision on the Franklin Local Board.
I grew up and have spent most of my life in Franklin, from my childhood in Maraetai to working at local markets supporting small businesses in Clevedon, and now my family and I live in Waiuku.
Since moving to Waiuku in 2019, I have observed council inefficiency, burdening and frustrating local ratepayers and families. At 30 years old, with a Master of Business and extensive IT experience, I am stepping forward out of a genuine commitment to serve the community. I am standing with Rock The Vote NZ, and together we believe in common-sense policies, transparency, and practical solutions.
If elected, I will advocate for sensible spending across both the local board and council, and I will encourage lower rate rises because the Auckland Council must live within its means.
Sensible spending means prioritising core council services over vanity projects. For example, some areas have trialled moving rubbish collection from weekly to fortnightly, and in Waiuku, we have shifted from the freedom to buy as many rubbish bags as needed to a fixed maximum determined by bin size.
I will bring a strong voice to Waiuku. Recent media reports show that many residents have been surprised by rate increases of up to 23 per cent. Greater transparency is needed in how rates are calculated, along with measures to prevent such hikes in the future.
We must not be forgotten.
Since the merger into the Auckland supercity, Franklin’s rural areas have often been overlooked by the central city. I will not allow Waiuku to be an afterthought, and we must secure our fair share of funding. I will not accept the central government’s dictate that our rural countryside should make way for the target of 2 million homes. Decisions on intensification should be centred on what the local people want.
I will scrutinise Franklin Local Board spending line by line, vote to eliminate waste, and ensure funds are allocated to making our roads safer, our parks cleaner, and supporting community projects that truly make a difference.
