One person has died after a car struck a building in Auckland’s North Shore this morning.
Police were called to William Souter Street in Forrest Hill about 8.55am following reports of a single-vehicle crash.
“A car has mounted the curb and hit two people before impacting a building,” police said in a statement.
The Franklin Times understands the vehicle crashed into the William Souter Espresso café where several people were sitting outside. Police confirmed the person who died was outside the building.
Hato Hone St John earlier said one person had been transported to hospital in a critical condition.
Two other people suffered moderate injuries and have also been taken to hospital.
A neighbouring business says it remains open despite road closures in the area.
William Souter Street is currently closed between East Coast Road and Morton Avenue while emergency services respond.
Police say the Serious Crash Unit is in attendance and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
