Police have released the name of the man who died following a crash on Tāmaki Drive on 22 October.
He was Sean James Cleary, 61, of Point Chevalier.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time,” Police said.
“The family of the deceased ask for privacy as they grieve their loved one.”
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash remain ongoing.
Emergency services were called to Tāmaki Drive about 9.20 pm on Wednesday after reports of the crash, which resulted in the bus catching fire.
One other person sustained serious injuries and was taken to Auckland City Hospital.
Tāmaki Drive remained closed in both directions between The Strand and Ngapipi Road for much of the following morning as emergency services cleared the scene and ensured the area was safe.
Hato Hone St John said it responded with three ambulances and two rapid-response vehicles.
Police advised that “due to the bus’s electric battery, the area could remain hazardous.”
The Serious Crash Unit is leading the investigation.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) said multiple fire crews from 12 stations across Auckland were dispatched to what was classified as a heavy-rescue response.
“About 16 fire trucks attended to extinguish the fire, along with several support vehicles,” a FENZ spokesperson told the Franklin Times.
Crews responded from Auckland City, Parnell, Avondale, Remuera, Papatoetoe, Ellerslie, Saint Heliers, Ōtāhuhu, Grey Lynn, Birkenhead, Mount Wellington and Devonport.
