A Police dog helped track down a teenager accused of shoplifting vape products from a Te Atatū Peninsula dairy.
Police were called to a store on Te Atatū Road just after 8pm on Monday February 9, after two males entered the shop and one allegedly reached over the counter and grabbed a range of vape products.
Waitematā West Area Prevention Manager Acting Inspector Nick Salter says the employee challenged the pair before the offender fled on foot.
Officers reviewed CCTV footage and a Police dog handler was deployed to search the area.
“The Police dog quickly picked up a scent and tracked to an address on Imelda Road, where two teenage males were located,” Salter says.
A packaged vape was also found discarded nearby.
A 16-year-old male has been arrested and charged with shoplifting and appeared in the Waitākere Youth Court today.
The second male, aged 13, was taken home.
“It’s a great result by our frontline staff,” Salter says.
“This young man is being held to account and all the stolen property has been recovered.”
