Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

While Kieran Read relaxed, the bed read him. It’s not unusual to test a bed before we buy, but the new AI Smart Bed called “smart Tek Ai” bed tests us too.
Former All Black captain Kieran Read knows a thing or two about tests. So, after he tested the bed at New Zealand Bed Company Pukekohe, these remarkable beds passed muster in his mind and not just to professional sportspeople.
“It was really impressive – I think it could put me to sleep very quickly! Actually testing it was amazing, you can definitely feel it massage and support you,” the former Papakura local says.
“Sleep was such an important part of being a rugby player. As an All Black, every little thing I could do to improve my rest and recovery was vital. These days, being a dad is so rewarding but it’s also exhausting, so it’ll be awesome to get a better night’s sleep and have more energy when spending time with my kids.”
The secret to the Smart Bed is that they monitor heart rate, breathing, body movement, sleep stages, pressure points and more, before adjusting mattress firmness, bed position and temperature in real time throughout the night.
But the main aim isn’t just to make us more comfy – good sleep supports overall health by improving mental wellbeing, strengthening the immune system and allowing the body to recover properly.
The bed even gently rises come morning to ensure we rise gently without the need for an alarm. Whether we dream about winning world cups or simply need to wake feeling rested, refreshed, match fit and ready to tackle another day, the AI Smart Bed could be just what the doctor ordered.
Read’s no doctor, but Moses Satralkar is. Also present at the recent Pukekohe launch of the beds, the good doctor provided his prognosis. Research published in medical journals confirms that the right surface, such as these beds, can help alleviate sleep disorders.
“The right sleep surfaces help with alleviation of sleep disorders and they have the potential for musculoskeletal rehabilitation,” Satralkar says.
“A study from the University of Auckland shows that 25 per cent of New Zealand adults suffer from some sort of sleep problem and around 17 per cent of people aged above 65 have arthroplasty surgeries [to replace joints or restore movement and relieve pain], so this bed could be a game changer.”
Pukekohe store manager Harsh Doshi says he feels privileged to be part of such a major milestone for great sleep and good health.
“It’s the first time something like this has been available in New Zealand. It has a great ability to actually suit each person individually, adapting to their bodies and sleep patterns. I’m stoked that something so amazing is being launched at my store first.”
The new beds are available at NZ Bed Company stores throughout Auckland and soon, across the country. Long single and queen sizes are already on the shop floor with more sizes expected to follow.
“The bed also boasts a six-minute sleep aid mode that cradles you to sleep with a gentle music, audible to only your ears,” Doshi says. “Coupled with zero gravity positioning, this bed flatters with decompression mode that relaxes you and optimises blood circulation for the ultimate reset.”
To follow in Read’s bootsteps and test these new AI Smart beds or simply learn more about how the cutting edge technology behind them can help, contact Doshi and team online via www.nzbeds.co.nz.
“There’s plenty of information about how they work, but as Kieran has discovered, the best way to know is to try for yourself,” Doshi adds. “Just call us or drop by – we’re at The Zone on Subway Road – because the future of sleep really does start right here!”
