A Waiuku man has been charged with murder following the death of a courier driver in east Auckland in 2024.
Tuipulotu Vi, 59, was shot while driving a Post Haste courier van in Marvon Downs Avenue, Pakuranga Heights, just before 7am on August 19.
He was attended by medical services but died at the scene. A homicide investigation named ‘Operation Block’ was then launched.
It wasn’t until September 18, 2025, the investigation team made an arrest in connection with the killing. A search warrant was executed at an address in Franklyne Road, Ōtara, where a 23-year-old man was taken into custody and charged with being a party to Vi’s murder.
Detective Inspector Shaun Vickers of Counties Manukau Police’s criminal investigation branch said police “spent months piecing together information in relation to the case.”
In a statement today, police said a second arrest has been made.
“Police have charged a 35-year-old Waiuku man with murder,” Vickers said.
“This is the second man to appear in court over Mr Vi’s death and we cannot rule out further arrests being made in this investigation.”
The 35-year-old man will appear in the Manukau District Court today.
