Maraetai will experience a dog day afternoon but no one seems to mind.
Billed as a dog-friendly, social event the Walk ‘n’ Wag will be held at the Omana Regional Park in Maraetai on May 9.
Part of the Aramex Kiwi Walk and Run Series, it features three courses – 1.5 kilometres, 5.5 and 9kms. Participants and their humans will cover a mixture of terrain including pavement, gravel and forest trails.
While fitness is an aim, fun is the focus, series Manager Lauren Watson says.
“Dogs are part of the family, so creating an event where they’re not just allowed but celebrated makes it extra special. The atmosphere is always relaxed, friendly, and full of wagging tails.”
The Walk ‘n’ Wag is intended to be an enjoyable experience rather than a competition, providing dogs with extra stimulation and social interaction.

Bored? Walk!
Walking dogs is essential for their physical health, mental stimulation, and overall well-being.
Regular walks help maintain a healthy weight, strengthen muscles and support cardiovascular fitness, reducing the risk of obesity-related issues.
Beyond physical benefits, walking provides dogs with opportunities to explore their environment, engage their senses and alleviate boredom, which can prevent destructive behaviour at home.
Walking dogs can help ensure they understand that man’s their best friend but also their pack leader.
Remember that dogs are social creatures. They may love you, but they also need interaction with poochie pals too.
