Coming hot off the heels of a recent competition, the Papakura Arts Group is holding an exhibition at the Sir Edmund Hillary Library.
The exhibition includes the winners of the competition held on October 22, as well as art by various local artists. The contest comprised 57 pieces of work from between 20 and 25 artists, and 50 visitors came on the day. The event is usually held three times a year at the Sir Edmund Hillary Library.
Papakura Arts Group president Glenda Kenney said these exhibitions are important to the area because they encourage people to come and join them.
“We often get people to join our activities after seeing what we produce, so it helps to stimulate the local area. Our members extend from Ellerslie, Beachland, and Waiuku, and as far south as Ararimu and Pukekohe.
“I believe the Papakura Arts Group is doing a wonderful service; it’s important for some people to be able to paint, and it’s good for stimulating your mind.”
Members work with several genres, including watercolours, pastels, acrylics, oils, pencil/pen, and charcoal.
The exhibition opened on October 24 and will run until November 8, from 10am to 4pm at the Sir Edmund Hillary Library 1/209 Great South Road, Papakura.
