A popular well-known health and massage therapist is in hospital after heart attacks and the Auckland community is rallying to support him.
Always friendly health and fitness enthusiast Jerome De Silva, of DeSilva Massage and Health, suffered seven heart attacks after completing Auckland’s Waterfront Half Marathon on April 18.
An online Givealittle page has been setup by supporters of De Silva, and it says:
“In Jerome’s own words, his heart is only functioning at around 50 per cent, leaving him exhausted and struggling to breathe as fluid builds in his lungs.
“He’s had stents put in both sides of his heart – one on the left and two on the right.
“Right now, his focus is simply getting through each day and finding his way back to health.
“We have a chance to stand beside him,” says the Givealittle page organisers.
“Any donation, big or small, will help ease the burden on Jerome and his family while he focuses on healing.
“If you can’t donate, sharing this [Givealittle] page means so much.

“Let’s be there for Jerome, the way he’s been there for so many of us.
“He crossed the finish line of a half marathon… and moments later, his life changed forever.”
The Givealittle page says “many of us” of the east Auckland community know Jerome of DeSilva Massage and Health.
“He’s spent years helping others through pain, injury, and life’s harder moments – always with kindness, care, and a genuine desire to help people feel better.
“Now, he’s facing one of the hardest battles of his life.
“As a sole trader, Jerome’s work is his only source of income – and right now, that income has stopped.
“He hadn’t yet put trauma cover in place, leaving no financial safety net during this incredibly difficult time,” says the Givealittle page.
“He’s recently bought a home with his wife and their children. What should have been a joyful new chapter has quickly become a time of uncertainty and financial strain.”
