A pink ribbon event, Bubbles & Bites (May 23) is expected to raise awareness of and funds to fight breast cancer.
Waiau Pa’s Carman Smith, who owns Coast and Country Beauty Boutique, will host the event at her home.
This will be the first time Smith has hosted such an event, and while she hasn’t been directly affected by breast cancer, she has seen many women come into her store who have been.
“I wanted to host a Pink Ribbon fundraiser because it affects so many women and their families,” she says. “As [mine is] a woman-owned business in the beauty and wellness industry, I see firsthand how much confidence, support, and community matter, especially during difficult times.
“Breast Cancer affects so many families that it’s important to bring people together for something meaningful to help, not just to bring awareness to cancer, but also for women to feel connected and uplifted.”
Smith says businesses in Waiau Pa have been incredibly supportive with many donating prizes for a raffle.
“For me, it’s about using my platform and community to make even just a small difference, spread awareness and remind people that no one has to go through these challenges alone.”
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Breast Cancer Foundation. Click here for more information.
