A search warrant executed in Papakura has seen police turn up the heat on thieves allegedly caught stealing equipment from homes.
An arrest has been made with stolen property (including gas water heaters) recovered.
Police suspected stolen property from a recent burglary was being stored, explains Detective Senior Sergeant Natalie Nelson, Counties Manukau South CIB.
“The Counties Manukau South Tactical Crime Unit then executed a search warrant at an Arimu Road address and located a range of stolen items,” she says. “Among the items recovered were eight gas califonts (compact water heating systems) and a number of 45kg gas bottles.”
Five of the gas califonts are linked to a recent burglary in Papakura. They have been returned to their owner who had recorded their serial numbers. Work is ongoing to identify the owners of other items.
Nelson says such items are frequently targeted by thieves.
“Record the serial numbers of tools and valuable items, or mark these with an identifier that can be traced to your property,” she adds. “This can help police return your items if they’re stolen by thieves.”
A 44-year-old woman will appear in Papakura District Court charged with burglary.
