The newly opened Thai Station Pukekohe is already proving a hit with locals.
Run by husband-and-wife team Park Prasitti and Jan Kanokwan, Jan says she was inspired to open the new restaurant because of her love of Thailand. She also heard from people in Pukekohe that they wanted more variety in their Thai food.
“I love Thai food, I’ve lived here for a while, and I want to share (my love of food) with the people around here. The people are quite lovely, and there aren’t many Thai restaurants in the area,” Jan said.
Thai Station Pukekohe held its grand opening earlier in January, and while both Jan and Park hoped for a good first day, they were blown away by the response from Franklin diners.
Jan has worked in hospitality since she was 15, and her family’s history in hospitality goes back to when both her parents worked as chefs. Park also has experience as a chef.
While Jan stays in the back and cooks, Park handles the management side of things in the front. For the couple, money is not the priority; what matters is sharing their food and hoping people enjoy the dishes they make.
For now, the couple is still settling into their new roles and has no immediate plans moving forward. All they want is for customers to come in, get to know them, and try their food.
“We hope everyone enjoys the food. We want to share our food with everyone,” Jan said.
Thai Station Pukekohe offers lunch bar options, dine-in meals, takeaway, and catering.
They specialise in Thai cuisine alongside popular Japanese donburi bowls, prepared fresh with quality ingredients.
