The Kawakawa Bay Presbyterian Church is holding its fourth annual Easter Picnic and Egg Hunt.
Brenda Legg, an elder at the Kawakawa Bay Presbyterian Church, is organising the event – on Easter Sunday, 12.30–2pm at the Kawakawa Bay Village Green. She says it is a day for games, crafts and face painting with all welcome to enjoy the picnic.
Because real eggs can be easily broken, the children hunt coloured pegs instead, which they then swap for real Easter eggs.
Last year, approximately 50 people came along to celebrate the holiday. Legg says the family games were the most popular, with adults competing against their children in sack races and egg-and-spoon races, for example.
Some of the games will be well known among older generations.
“We have some crafts from the church that the children can do there or take home and do,” Legg says.
In addition to the Easter egg hunt, the event includes a sausage sizzle, hot cross buns, plenty of giveaways and prizes up for grabs.
While free for all, attendees are asked to bring a blanket, food and drink, and children must be accompanied by an adult. In case of rain, the picnic will be held in the hall.
