Two people have been arrested after a firework was thrown into Papakura Lawnmowers on East Street on Friday morning.
Police told the Franklin Times they received a call at around 9.40 am on 7 October reporting that a person had a firework aimed and fired at them at a business address on East Street before the offenders fled in a vehicle.
Officers responded immediately and conducted area searches, and the alleged vehicle was promptly located. Two people were taken into custody.
CCTV footage from inside the store shows a burst of fireworks igniting among lawnmowers near the front counter, as staff and customers took cover in corners of the store, behind the counter and display stands.
Sparks scattered across several ride-on mowers and wall displays as people rushed to safety. There were several customers in the shop, including one close to where the firework landed.
The store’s owner says one customer is receiving medical care following the incident, while others escaped without injury but were left shaken.
