For over 40 years, our kaupapa and vision have remained unwavering – to nurture strong individuals, healthy whānau, and connected communities.
We believe wellbeing is not just the absence of hardship, but the presence of safety, belonging, and support.
Sometimes, the strength of a whānau (family) is tested in ways that aren’t visible. Harm within the home is not always loud or dramatic. It can appear as ongoing criticism, isolation from friends and whānau, control over finances, intimidation, pressure, or physical harm.
When one person uses power and control over another, it erodes safety and chips away at confidence and self-worth.
These experiences can occur in any home, on any street. Many whānau carry the weight of it quietly, unsure who to turn to or whether what they are feeling is “serious enough” to seek help.
At Mai Lighthouse, we walk alongside whānau with compassion and respect.
Our experienced social work team supports individuals and families to create practical safety plans, rebuild confidence, and reconnect with trusted supports. We offer one-on-one guidance and group programmes grounded in safety, cultural understanding, and genuine care. We also walk with those who have used violence and are ready to take responsibility and build healthier relationships.
Change is possible. Healing is possible. With the right support and a community that stands beside you, new patterns can be created.
If something doesn’t feel right at home, trust that instinct and reach out. Mai Lighthouse is here to guide whānau toward wellbeing, lighting the pathway to hope with practical, confidential support when it’s needed most.
